What is Electro Acupuncture?
If you’ve ever heard of acupuncture therapy, you might be thinking Electroacupuncture is the same thing. These are two different forms of treatment, however!
Acupuncture is a widely used method of traditional Chinese medicine that includes inserting tiny needles into precise pressure points to relieve symptoms.
A single needle is used at each treatment point in traditional acupuncture. Electroacupuncture is a type of acupuncture that employs two needles!
During treatment, a moderate electric current is passed between these needles. This current stimulates acupoints more effectively than needle twirling or other hand manipulation techniques used by acupuncturists.
Could this technique benefit me?
Electroacupuncture can help patients living with arthritis, chronic stress, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), nausea from chemotherapy treatments, and even addiction.
The best way to find out if Electroacupuncture can benefit you is to visit with a licensed therapist at our clinic in Toronto. Here, we can assess your symptoms and recommend the best course of action. Two needles will be inserted, and electrodes will be linked to specific electroacupuncture equipment once they have been inserted far enough.
Current and voltage settings on electroacupuncture machines can be adjusted. Initially, low voltages and frequencies will be used, but your acupuncturist or physiotherapist may change the frequency and voltage of the current during treatment.
The electric current alternates between the two needles, pulsing. The great news is you don’t have to worry about feeling pain or discomfort with this kind of treatment, plus, it’s relatively quick! You can expect your treatment session to last from 20 to 30 minutes.
